Henry Cavill is set to take on the lead role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’ TV adaptation of the best-selling fantasy series and video game “The Witcher.”
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the series, tweeted the announcement, welcoming Cavill to the Witcher family.
He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.

Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones, House of Cards) will serve as an executive producer and is set to direct four of the eight episodes. Alex Garcia Lopez and Charlotte Brändström will also serve as directors of the first season.
The show is based on the best-selling fantasy book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, which was first adapted as a video game. The story follows Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
