Yesterday, we reported that Brie Larson and Entertainment Weekly were planning to break the internet with something “marvel-ous.” And boy, did they.
EW has released not one but 10 exclusive images from Captain Marvel.
Not An Origin Story
Most, if not all superhero movie and TV adaptations start off as with an origin story – how they got their superpowers, struggled with their new found abilities. Captain Marvel completely takes a different route and shows us right off the bat that Carol already has her superpowers and has left her life on Earth to join Starforce. Other members of Starforce, the SEAL Team Six of space, include Korath and Minn-Erva.
We now have our first look at Jude Law as Mar-vell. Mar-vell is the commander of Starforce and is Carol’s mentor.
“These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control,” Law says. “That’s a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one’s emotions and to use your powers wisely.”
Young Nick Fury
We’ve seen photos of Samuel Jackson on the set of Captain Marvel putting on some motion capture dots on his face. We finally know the reason why: to digitally make him look younger. Captain Marvel is set in the 90’s so we’re already familiar with how Samuel Jackson looked like during that era.
Air Force Pilot
Just because Captain Marvel won’t be an origin story doesn’t mean we won’t get flashbacks or snippets as to how she got her powers. In the comics, Carol was an Air Force pilot who was exposed to some alien device that mutated her DNA, giving her cosmic powers.

Joining Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jude Law are Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Robert Kazinsky, and Kenneth Mitchell.
Captain Marvel will soar into theaters on March 8, 2019.
