Why You Should Be Excited for “A Star Is Born”

A Star Is Born

“A Star Is Born” is looking to be one of the best films of 2018. And it sounds like it’s a major Oscars contender across multiple categories – including Best Picture.

Critics from all over are loving the Cooper-Gaga tandem, with TheWrap’s Alfonso Duraldo saying they’re a “dynamite together,” and that it is a “story that lives and dies by the central relationship and the instant chemistry that must blossom between them, and these two have it in spades.”

Emily Yoshida of Vulture also notes that Cooper and Gaga’s relationship has a “gut-level romanticism” which make it stand out.

But what stood out the most was Lady Gaga’s soulful performance. Prior to this film, she only had two movies under her belt: 2017’s “Gaga: Five Foot Two” and “Machete Kills” back in 2013. Even with just a couple entries in her filmography, critics are raving her portrayal as Ally. “[Lady Gaga’s] magnetism most draws you into their world – and keeps you there even when the film hits the occasional wrong note,” reads Michael Nordine’s critique.

Bradley Cooper is also on the receiving end of high praises. “A Star Is Born” is Cooper’s directorial debut and it seems like pulling double duty as a central character and director paid off. Owen Gleiberman of Variety called his film “a transcendent Hollywood move.” And Hollywood Reporter also has this to say, “This is a durable tale of romance, heady fame and crushing tragedy, retold for a new generation with heart and grit.”

“A Star Is Born” follows Jackson (Cooper), a musician, who helps a young singer and actress, Ally (Lady Gaga) find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.

It is set to be released worldwide on October 8, 2018. Watch the trailer below:
