Australian actress Ruby Rose has been cast to play “Batwoman” for CW’s titular show. She is the first openly lesbian actress to play a lead superhero.
The series will focus on Batwoman’s alter ego, Kate Kane, who has been openly gay since 2006, and is expected to air late 2019 or early 2020.
DC has made efforts to diversify its publications. One of the TV show’s writers, Caroline Dries, tweeted the casting announcement, saying they had “struck gold” with Ruby Rose.
We struck gold with @RubyRose for Batwoman. No one better.

I’m actually crying and I have to stop crying because I have to go to work! Haha
